Certificate in Intimate Partner Therapy

Expand your one to one practice to include working with couples and multiple partnered people.

This is a fully online course for qualified counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists already working with individual clients.

The CICS Certificate in Intimate Partner Therapy prepares qualified counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists to expand their one to one practice to include working with couples and multiple partnered people.

You may not be familiar with the term ‘multiple partnered people’ and may wonder why this course is not called a Certificate in Couple Counselling. Intimate relationships are not always confined to being between two people and some relationships may have a consensual non-monogamy or polyamory structure. The term ‘couple’ restricts the perspective of intimate partner therapy to relationships that have two people in them. In contemporary relationship therapy we need to include all intimate partner structures, hence our use of the terms ‘intimate partner therapy’ and ‘multiple partnered people’.

This course is offered as a fully online blended learning programme. The knowledge base of the course is captured in a series of detailed pre-recorded videos and pre-readings accessed via our e-learning platform. We then bring that knowledge to life in the live skills practice days accessed via Zoom.

Lynn Kyle, counsellor from Northern Ireland with Different Therapy, talks about her experience having completed the CICS Certificate in Intimate Partner Therapy.
