CICS’s programmes have been developed to provide a high quality learning experience in preparation for ethical, professional, robust, research based practice in the field of sex and relationship psychotherapy.
Diversity is embedded into everything we do. And that is not just words – we mean it and we can demonstrate it. Several of our Faculty members are Pink Therapy endorsed Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity Tutors. Our Diploma course has been awarded the formal Pink Therapy endorsement as a Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) inclusive training, following an extensive audit of our whole programme. At CICS we affirm explicitly our commitment to being an anti-racism organisation.
Our courses are all accredited by the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT), meaning that we meet the stringent requirements of the UK’s only accrediting body for sex and relationship therapists.
Our courses will teach you how to work with sex and relationship themes with individuals, couples and multiple partnered people. We acknowledge and celebrate that not all intimate relationships are between two people.
We don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ philosophy of personal development.
Our approach is interdisciplinary, combining the biological, psychological and social aspects of sexual and relationship health and wellbeing. We are very proud to have Professor Mike Kirby and Dr Angela Wright as our lead tutors on the bio-medical aspects of sexology and as medical advisors to the course.
Our modality is Pluralism, embracing the value in all approaches to counselling, with an emphasis on the uniqueness of each client, the centrality of relationship and research based practice.
Our teaching style is a distinctive combination of creativity, warmth and academic rigour. Our Faculty Members are leaders in their field of expertise.
Our assessment processes allow for a range of styles and personal approaches to learning and are not exclusively essay based. Our students can demonstrate their learning through mind maps, videos, drawings, poems, practical demonstration … we don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ philosophy of personal development.
Our connection to the UK sex and relationship therapy world means that we can link our students to a broad range of placement opportunities. We are based in our own premises in Letchworth Garden City, with easy access via the A1 and M1 and the rail network. Some of our courses are completely based online and some offer the option of joining the live training days in person or online.
All of our programmes are based on a blended learning approach, with the knowledge base captured in pre-recorded lectures and readings on our e-learning platform, leaving space for skills practice and the consolidation of learning to take place during our live teaching days. This approach allows our students to go over the knowledge base of their programme repeatedly, with non-time limited access to our comprehensive e-learning resources, and means that our qualification routes have significantly more tutor contact hours than other programmes.
Fundamentally, we have developed a series of courses that includes the best of all of our personal development experiences with the addition of everything we wish we had when we were training in this field ourselves.
We hope that you agree that CICS is the best choice for your professional development into a fascinating, specialist area of therapy.
