Psychotherapist, Suzette Castle-Mackie, and OB/GYN, Marie Abel, give their thoughts on our Professional Certificate in Psychosexual Therapy.
CICS graduate Margherita Mioni gives her review on our Professional Certificate in Psychosexual Therapy.
"As a qualified counsellor working in the NHS I was looking for further training in working with sexual problems. I considered several course providers before choosing CICS and I am so relieved with my decision.
Julie Sale's knowledge, professionalism and manner is outstanding and this was obvious to me right from our initial pre-course assessment interview. The course format is extremely user-friendly and the content is informative, thorough and detailed.
I felt fully supported with the independent learning, with the option to contact Julie with any queries throughout the course. The live days were interesting and interactive and really supported and embedded the independent learning throughout the month. I could not recommend this course highly enough and would encourage anyone seeking further training in the area of psychosexual therapy to choose CICS."
"I had been looking for an on-line training in sexuality for a long time when I decided to enrol on the Professional Psychosexual Therapy Certificate course by CICS …. and I am really happy with my decision.
This course gave me all the basic tools I needed in order to support my clients in their sexual journey and because I work with people with intersecting identities, it was extremely important for me to receive a training within a bio-psycho-social framework, which considers multiple aspects of the client in addressing their sexual issues.
This course is comprehensive, as it provides information on gender, sexuality and relationship diversity, challenging the hetero normative, cis normative and mono normative approach we are used to. We had discussions on pornography, sex toys, sexual compulsive behaviours, queer identities and many other topics in a sex positive and non- pathologizing environment. This course also challenged my personal beliefs around sexuality and offered me space for self-reflection, which is in my opinion crucial in order to work effectively with clients.
Alternating self-guided lessons with live meetings gave me the opportunity to assimilate the content at my own pace and consolidate it with practical activities during the live meeting. The live sessions have been for me occasions to meet with other professionals and to create a network that keeps strengthening after the course is over.
I highly recommend this course to all the professionals interested in expanding their knowledge and skills around sexuality, gender and sexuality with the guidance of leading experts in this field."
"I have been practising as a counsellor and supervisor for many years and I have always wanted to add learning around psychosexual and relationship issues to my therapeutic toolkit. As I live in South Wales, the nearest courses were trips to London for many months, which were simply not viable in terms of time and cost. The COVID pandemic has been positive in this respect, as it has made us question many of our assumptions that training, learning and therapy were primarily a face-to-face transaction. The old saying rings true here in that necessity is the mother of invention and CICS has certainly stepped up to the mark with the introduction of this online learning course. It offers an intensive, blended learning opportunity for qualified counsellors, GP’s and other professionals who want to expand their knowledge of psychosexual issues.
Currently the course requirements feature one live practice day a month via zoom. The learning for this day is supported by videos, documents, articles and other resources, which are supplied month by month in advance of the live day. The materials supplied are informative, contemporary and comprehensive and the e-learning platform where all the course materials are housed works well. Support from course tutors was prompt, professional and appropriate.
As students, we were introduced to a wide range of learning around sexual function issues, gender and sexual diversity, kink, BSDM, compulsive sexual behaviours and psychosexual issues for couples and to some of the tensions and differences within the psychosexual community of professionals.
The course has recently been awarded a Level 7 accreditation from COSRT and this is well deserved. It is an intensive and comprehensive course and when I finished I felt that I have received a solid foundation of information and ideas for practice that I can incorporate into my practice with clients."
