Working with Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence

The Statistics on Domestic Violence and Abuse in the UK are startling.

According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales year ending March 2019, an estimated 5.7% of adults (2.4 million) experienced domestic abuse in the last year. The police recorded a total of over 1.3 million domestic abuse-related incidents and crimes in the year ending March 2019. Of these, 746,219 were recorded as domestic abuse-related crimes, an increase of 24% from the previous year.

Join the CICS Diploma in Clinical Sexology group as we study how to identify and work safely with individuals who are victims of Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence, (IPV and SV).

This two day specialist training will cover:

• Knowledge of the impact of IPV and SV on individuals and within relationships.
• How to identify the signs of IPV and how to manage risk in ongoing treatment.
• Ability to undertake risk assessments and make a formulation/treatment plan which is congruent with any aspects of violence and abuse.
• Ability to work appropriately with violence and abuse in the broadest sense of the word and to be aware of own limitations, prejudices and judgments which may interfere with the ability to do so.

Rima Hawkins is a COSRT Accredited Psychosexual and Relationship therapist with extensive knowledge and experience in working with IPV and SV. Rima was seconded to the Department of Health and the Home Office to develop the national roll out for the Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC) following successfully leading the pilot in London (SARC - Havens). She received commendation from the Assistant Commissioner of London Metropolitan Police for this work.
